Bullying- A volatile method of asserting dominance that has slowly crept its way and settled itself as a means of violence in the peaceful co-existence of today’s society, bullying has caused a number of vulgar impacts across the world- Subjecting to drugs, alcoholism, depression, and even suicide. Whether physical or cyber, bullying continues to unleash its wrath on its victims with no obstacles in its course.

It is appalling to even imagine that the slightest of reasons can serve as a motive behind bullying- the victim’s height and weight, the type of clothes they wear, even the fact that they may wear spectacles are treated as misdemeanours and used as the objectives for the bully to pick on them. Due to being heavily ignored by the community, bullying has been allowed to spread rapidly across schools, including workplaces, where it is practiced as a common addition to the environment without any notice in the damage it stirs up both mentally and physically.

Bullying mainly occurs when a sense of exerting control takes over one’s personality, and spotting a weaker category allows them to satisfy that desire and subject their victim to physical and verbal abuse. It can also occur when the bully is under peer pressure of their own to fit into a particular clique, thus they pick on those who are unable to fight back. Needless to say, bullying exists in all forms whether hiding behind a computer screen or presenting itself in an offline environment as well, either way, exerting a sense of torture onto countless innocent lives, earning its title as a ‘disruption in disguise’.

Yet the questions remain unanswered- why is action against bullying not forced upon in more rigorous manner? Why are we allowing it to continue to make its victims suffer in silence? Bullying may have been coined as a term with the understanding of the effect it bears, due to which it is disrespected and hated on, yet the light behaviour with which it is treated is the reason why it even exists in today’s world.
