Embracing Mental Health

Mental Health encompasses the emotional, psychological and social well-being of an individual. It affects one’s thoughts, feelings, behaviour; not to mention how they handle stress, relate to others, and make choices in day-to-day life. Mental stability is essential in all stages of life (namely childhood, adolescence and adulthood).

I myself have experienced the impacts of mental health, both bad and good. Often, I feel like the ruler of the skies. Free in nearly every sense of the word. But soon enough, the coin flips and I find myself sharing the plight of Atlas the Titan. Doomed to bear those skies upon my shoulders, always fretting and worrying internally. One small mistake and everything goes tumbling down.

Every life has a few stages of hidden importance. A time, throughout which an individual goes on a journey of discovery. Whether it be discovery of entirely new attributes and facts and anything else of the sort, or the rediscovery of certain traits and details (which are now seen in a different light). This interval can be considered similar to adolescence, but I would argue there is a slight difference. Adolescence is the one stage of mental and physical development and transition between childhood and adulthood. From what I have seen and thought about as well, anyone can go through these intervals at any point in their life. Whether that individual be a child realising the severities of their social obstacles and then slowly overcoming said obstacles after some trial and error. Be it a young adult venturing into the real world and the time they take to adjust or not adjust to it, an elderly retiree with new-found interest in certain hobbies that they never had the chance to indulge in before due to their job. The list grows and will continue to grow. This is, however, my own speculation.
