Canada is experiencing its worst-ever wildfires which started late April, displacing more than 30,000 people at its peak along with burning through millions of acres and showcasing the brute reality of climate change. Most of the wildfires are believed to be accidentally caused by human activity although global temperature rise, caused by emissions from burning fossil fuels, is leading to larger, more frequent wildfires.

The effects have not only been limited to Canada as the smoke from the Canadian wildfires continues to be transported south by winds into the U.S. resulting in poor air quality, especially in New York which had been declared to have the worst air quality in the world. More than 100 million people across the northeastern United States were under pollution warnings. The wildfire smoke has also drifted in a westerly direction towards Europe including Norway after moving across Greenland and Iceland.

Allies around the world have promised to increase their help to Canada in its fight against its worst-ever wildfire season. There are 1000 firefighters as of now from the United States, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa as well as equipment like water bombers which have been deployed so far to help Canada battle the fires.
